Breaking News...About Tom Waits

Usually I limit my blogging to environment-related topics, but this was just too good to be true (though I assure you, it is). Tom Waits' publicist verified last night that Waits is in fact going on tour this summer. It will be a U.S. and European tour, with no dates determined as of yet. This is a rare event for the legendary American musician whose last (very short) tour was in 2006.

What are the chances that Tom Waits would do a concert in Gaza? Now that would be a show stopper! Live from sewage central, it’s Tom Waits. Singing hip deep in raw human filth! Just push those bodies off to one side and enjoy the show! Yeah, probably not very likely. One could think that a little musical entertainment in Gaza would be greatly appreciated. Mr. Waits could even dedicate his performance to Rachel Corrie. Golly, do you think that Israel would ever allow Gaza to have a moments peace let alone any entertainment. Let me think, what was it that old Zippy Livni called the Palestinians? Oh right, she called them bugs. Wow, that’s harsh.
