My friend Hussein Ibish, executive director of the Foundation for Arab-American Leadership in Washington, D.C., gave a speech at Tulane University on confronting misperceptions of Arabs in the U.S. the other day. It was covered in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and today USA Today picked the piece up. But the web edition, at least, gave it this headline: "Muslim leader decries American 'bigotry' against Islam."
What's wrong with that, you ask? Oh, just the small but pertinent fact that Hussein isn't a Muslim. Way to go, USA Today! We'll consider that a subtle attempt to prove Hussein's point. Either that or your Web headline writer is a jackass.

He’s named Hussein, isn’t he?

Putting scare quotes around bigotry probably doesn’t help, either.
