My former co-blogger Paul Kiel catches the White House practically bragging about CIA Director Mike Hayden's waterboarding disclosure. Here's Paul on WH spokesman Tony Fratto:
Fratto also apparently used the administration's it's not torture because "we do not torture" line. And "torture is illegal" and this was deemed legal therefore it's not torture. You can choose your favorite tautology.
For their own good, no members of the Bush administration should ever leave the country after January 20, 2009. They'll have to build a whole new addition to the jails at the Hague otherwise.

Well, at least the war criminals in the Bush regime have finally admitted what most, if not all of us, have known for a long time. These United States are ACTIVELY engaging in torture. The freaking Bush ‘war of terror’ wasn’t enough, nope. The Bush war criminals have dragged every last American into their sordid and barbaric plot to overthrow the Constitution of the United States, vacate any and every last treaty the U.S. has entered into, and given America the grand distinction of being worse than Hitler’s Germany. ‘We the people’ are now and “officially” without moral foundation. Simple as that. America’s great experiment in democracy is over. Congress REFUSES to hold these base and soiled traitors to account. Yeah thanks Pelosi. How does it feel being Speaker for the Treason? It damn well is treason! High crimes and misdemeanors, if that’s ALL this were, would be bad enough. It is worse than even the most pessimistic of Americans might have kept to themselves. Storm the gates? Tar and feathers? Impeachment and extradition to the Hague? What a glorious day for American Empire!
